Race Reflection for the Alpharetta, GA Half Marathon

When the colorful leaves call you to run the trail, you answer. Our FITCAT gals Jeri and Kesta took to the road for the inaugural Alpharetta, GA Half Marathon. Here’s what Jeri had to reflect on about the weekend.

“So much to tell about this weekend, but I will try and keep it condensed. We left early Sat. am for  Alpharetta, GA. We had bad fog, dear in the road, dog in the road, and a time zone change. The zone change was not in our favor, and then we had an hour delay with an overturned semi truck. Packet pickup ended at 6, and we knew we were going to be late. The winding roads and stop lights just added to the tension. We made it about 3 minutes after 6. The girl was just waiting for her friend to help her load up when we came in. She was so sweet and stayed to give us our bibs and shirts. Yeah!!! We did a little shopping and grabbed a quick bite to eat and off to the hotel. Stopped at the hotel, and the guy said, “Our you at the right place?” Well, no I was not! So next door we went. I had to wait to check in because the lady was busy. When she finally got to me, she said, “Our you at the right place?” I just wanted to get to my room and collapse! Well, she had just given our room away to the guy in front of me! His name was Justin Davis. Really!!! Anyway, it worked out! We got a deluxe room with bigger beds and a little cheaper to boot! God is good!

Race day started out cold, but it was perfect running weather! We were up early. Had another hour time change with daylight savings. We walked to the start line and took pics. Then finally, we were off! Everywhere I looked there were beautiful and strong women, and gorgeous fall colors!! Took my breathe away, God’s beauty had me in awe. I love Ga!!! Gorgeous state! I ran the first round of hills pretty good then at mile 7 hit the straights! The trail we were on was so nice and the colors amazing(did I say flat?). I ran with ladies all around and just listened to them talk about their lives. The miles flew by and then a BIG hill at mile 11!! Who Does That!! I walked/ran up that monster then ran it in strong with a 2 min. PR!!! What a blessing!!! Everything was perfect. Thank you Jesus for running with me and giving me  wings like eagles to not grow weary. Nice race for sure.We broke the ride home up with shopping/eating trip to Bell Buckle TN and rolled home around 1 am. Just blessed to have such sweet and caring girls to travel with! My cup runs over with thankfulness. I will give God all the glory and thank Him for every stressful moment! Godspeed to you all.
